A note of advice to anyone considering Persimmon Homes - make sure you clearly ask if their homes are being offered as freehold or leasehold. We were planning on buying a Persimmon home in Sutton Courtenay, having been recommended it to us by our estate agents. We got to the stage where we had reserved the plot and paid £1000 deposit, only after then did our agency inform us that the homes are leasehold only - the agency said they were under the impression that the homes were freehold and were only told later by Persimmon Homes that they were leasehold only. up to that point I had also checked persimmon's website regularly regarding those particular homes and there was no indication anywhere that the homes were leasehold. You would expect that such a critical factor would be made clear on their website since there is a world of difference between freehold and leasehold. For the price they were asking for a three bed property (£340,000), it was insulting that they thought leasehold (which is really nothing more than glorified renting - there was annual ground rent and service charges applicable as well) would be acceptable. But i wouldn't be so annoyed if they had just been honest and up front about status of the new homes in the first place.
On top of that I had to chase Persimmon homes for about a month to get my deposit back. There wasn't much sense of customer service, even during the period leading up to the cancellation of our interest in the property.
