“Having spent the last 12 months on first name terms...”

written by on 27/07/2009

Having spent the last 12 months on first name terms with my local RAC driver I felt it was about time I picked a car that would provide me with some fun, but more importantly trouble free motoring. I'm a sucker for style and speed but thinking sensibly this car needed to do a 70 mile round trip each day without burning a hole in my wallet, I was unsure what to buy. Eventually after some weeks spent on car forums listening to people talking about their hot hatches I decided to settle on a Civic Sport, a short test drive later I was hooked. Picked my 55 plate up from Honda with 25k on the clock and a full Honda History for around £7K. Three months on and I'm still enjoying this car. It has a great presence on the road & really does look like it means business. The drive is firm & well balanced (anyone who thinks it's too noisy just needs to get a decent set of tyres. The acceleration is quick enough for most with the v-tech kicking in at around 3500RPM 0-60 of around 10 seconds. It handles corners beautifully and keeps the speed up throughout. The gearstick is well placed dropping out of the front dash which just seems to make a lot of sense. On the economy side of things I've clocked my mgg at an average of 43 with a combination of motorway & city commuting over a week. This includes occasional use of the v-tech power on my way home (it's rude not to). £45 will fill the tank (and thats with petrol at a ridiculous 99.9p!) this will last around 400 miles. There's loads of room in the back & the boot too so passengers won't be moaning. My only criticisms really would be a sightly clunky change from 1st to 2nd (but i think this is down to the previous owner) and when using the air con it seems to pull quite a bit on the revs but thats a minor niggle. Oh & when you let passengers into the back the seat doesn't go back to the position it came from which is stupid (come on Honda get your act together). Aside from that if like me your looking for something quick enough to be fun, reliable enough to never break the bank and stylish enough to last a lifetime this my friend is the car for you.
