Good Points
The hotel staff are generally helpful and friendly. They are well prepared to offer assistance with small requests. However, this is not the staff of a four star hotel. The concierge doubles as the bell captain, so it can sometimes be a wait to ask for information or even retrieve your belongings. The rooms are comfortable though, if not modern.
Bad Points
The property is in need of an update. There are no provisions for in-room Internet service, so if you're planning a business trip stay elsewhere. The Victorian decor appears to have seen better days. This is not a four star property as some of the booking sites would have you believe. The house bar/restaurant also needs a bit of thought. I've seen better appointed Inns.
General Comments
The overall location of the Thistle Bloomsbury hotel outweighs most of the negatives I encountered. It is near the Piccadilly line, and a bevy of bus lines that head down Oxford Street if you're looking for good shopping. Additionally, if you plan on spending some time at the British Museum, you will be happy to know that the property is a scant block away from the site. If you're a budget traveller and require a clean room and a good shower, this property might not be so bad. There are plenty of pubs and cafes nearby, so you do not have to endure the house restaurant and bar. It's a bit grim in there.
