Good Points
Very user friendly. A REAL 4x4 with high/low ratio gearbox. Very high specification of extras. Incredibly reliable.
Bad Points
Choppy Japanese type ride. Limited towing ability. Ground clearance not good although engine set high to compensate.
General Comments
Bought this 1997 Suzuki Vitara Christmas 2001 at well below book price as a very high miler. It had 115,000 on the clock with full service history. Took it for MoT test (UK stringent annual vehicle test) expecting to have to carry out work, and to my amazement it passed straight away. Have contacted last owner and this car is on the original clutch and exhaust system would you believe! - and still, at 118k runs quite faultlessly. To switch to 4x4 you have to turn front hub locks manually (unlike my other car a Vauxhall Frontera 4x4 with Autolock hubs). I greatly enjoy the 4 electric windows, light PAS steering, electric sunroof etc. Even the back seats just partially fold forward to accommodate boxy loads without fully folding down. This car looks and feels like new and very pleased indeed. Not a motorway vehicle - but around towns and lanes a very useful machine. Not the usual ladder chassis design, but nevertheless still quite substantial.
