We tried to purchase via connels and were in the early search stages when our solicitor flagged up that the flat we were tryting to buy was on a short lease (only 67 years to run) most mortgage lenders will not touch anything under 70 years, but more to the point if we were to try and extend the lease after purchase we would have to wait 2 years before we could apply and then the leaseholder could charge whatever they wanted, into the thousands of pounds! The upshot being we pulled out of the sale as it would have been very problematic /costly if we tried to sell in the furture ()with and even shorter lease. Their bad practice cost us time and money as well as stressing us out no end!!! ( not telling us it was a short lease) their explanation when challenged " we dont have the facility to put those details on our computers" they KNEW and could have told us before we lost 300 pounds on search fee's etc! will never use them again and would not recommend anyone else use them.
