Good Points
This plasma set is used solely as a monitor. The sound available is stereo only so is never used. The set is used in conjunction with the TU-PT600B Receiver. This decodes terrestrial aerial signals and acts as a very efficient AV switcher. I have 3 scart inputs with video and s-video and a Pr Pb Y component signal pin type input with stereo audio input as the 4th AV input or conventional scart with video or s-video, not to mention the convenient front mounted AV3 composite input for occasional camera input. The plasma screen has slots for input cards, one of which is the input from the Receiver box. Another slot allows PC input for powerpoint shows etc.
Bad Points
The picture is clear enough when static or slow pan, but when camera shots pan medium to fast the colour depth is seriously challenged. Grading of the colour is more than noticeable, it is pathetic. This is not too often thankfully, but I wish I had waited for processor speeds to increase and the technology to improve. This set has no internal cooling fan so on a good note it is silent, on a bad not it is acceptable to dry joints in the soldered parts of the power supply and high frequency components like oscillator transistors.
General Comments
I am experiencing a fault at the moment with my Panasonic TH-42PW6 that I cannot find the cause of as yet, but continue to trawl the net. The set switches off for no reason. But only switches on when the sky + digibox is disconnected.
