“I arrived at the Premier Inn only to be told that they...”

I arrived at the Premier Inn only to be told that they didn't have a record of my booking, I showed them my booking reference and was told that it was not their number, so they sent me to another hotel (and they didn't offer to call them to check the booking, for me first). The second property, the Holiday Inn didn't have the booking either, but the receptionist kindly spent some time trying to contact the Premier Inn for me after about 10 failed calls, the Holiday Inn received a call from the Premier Inn asking them to redirect me back, as they had just found my booking. I drove back to the PI and they told me that they had only just received the notification. It took over 24 hours for the booking to reach its destination. Is this normal ?????

I was far from happy, I had driven from Manchester, to London and was on my way back to Manchester and was far too tired to be turned away.
