I've had Excite email for many years (1998/1999). I've been with them through Excite(at)Home and Freelane. After a few years, it seems as though they lost their source of talent. Since they've signed on with BlueTie it has been awful. They were once in the lead group on the internet; now it seems they're vying for a slow death.
* Emails take too long to arrive (if at all)
* Does not always work with Internet Explorer (may not be bad for others)
* Advertisements take up too much screen space. We expect ads for free webmail, but lose the bottom banner space.
* Preview "Window" is way too small - I don't always want to double-click on the email to open a new window.
Excite can still make a run of it if they can get their marketing team to listen to their current customers. They don't need to be another casualty in the internet business churn. BlueTie was recognized as top of their game in 2007. However, now it seems they're a big cause of irritation for Excite email users. Is Excite going to allow BlueTie chase away users? Only time will tell if they will ironically go the way of Magellan.
