“www.SundayLeague.com - It's easy to remember, and...”

written by Jimmy04 on 03/11/2004

Good Points
Sunday League boasts some fantastic humour, fun gameplay and can spark some really fantastic rivalries between you and your friends. It's hard to find any real faults with the player community, especially one as large as it is, and Cat Games maintain the servers religiously and along with the whole host of partners offer some really fantastic prizes for those who prove worthy.

Bad Points
Sometimes it's hard to get the daily access required to change the team from day-to-day. Of course, predetermined absences are more easily offset by the included 'Holiday Mode.'

General Comments
www.SundayLeague.com - It's easy to remember, and perhaps luckily so...why? Because if you're a football fan, or soccer as some of you may see it, you'll be visiting it quite regularly.

On your first visit, you'll find a whole range of differently-named servers on which you can play. Whether it's Cat Games' self-funded servers or one of the many sponsored severs (Manchester United, anyone?) each offer different prizes to the best managers in the season; so follow your friends or follow the prizes, the choice is yours.

Server selection over, it's time to register; fill in the extremely simple fields, get your e-mail and log-in! Once you've done this you're set to enter the world of crazy scores, crazy referees and even crazier penalty-decisions. Of course you're not alone, though. Each time you log in you'll be greeted with the latest news and a little game-play tip, not to mention the pretty meaty FAQ which is accessible at all times.

If you still have problems, you can visit the forums and check the relevant sections where fellow users post strategy tips and so forth. Learn while you still can!

The main jist of it, however, is you begin with a team of 20, mostly, no-hopers as you try to become the best of the best. Whether you bring in new blood, train what you have, or simply turn up on match-day; you play to win.

The tactical part of the game (which in many cases works in a Rock-Paper-Scissors sense) can be as static or as flexible as you want it, set the general tactics for the next game and leave it till the next day to see the result, or plan out all the minor aspects of each and every match - e.g. 'If at 70 minutes the team is losing by 2 goals, change to attacking' of course the actual execution is extremely more simplified in a basic multiple-choice style.

The game is essentially free to play, although the purchasing of credits allow you to challenge people to friendlies, buy new players, or enter some of the bigger cups to win large amounts of credits. How you want to play is purely up to you, as deep or as simple as you want to; no-one is there to judge you, except maybe that friend who just hammered you 12-1.

Outside of the main interface of the game, Cat Games run a very streamlined support group, which will help you try and solve any technical issues as soon as possible, of course the quality is of a great enough standard that I've never yet found a glitch or error.

Something to remember though, this isn't a football management game where you manage professionals. It's a Sunday League as the name suggests; 8-0 victories are just as common as a player headbutting another. Also, matches aren't a real-time event; you can't watch the game play out instead the server simulates each game during off-periods (mostly overnight for league games) and posts the results with a humourous match-report and goal summary afterwards.

All in all, it's a great game and at least worth the time to give it a go, if not purely for the fantastic football loving community. There's no obligation to stay if you don't like it, so there's no reason not to see what the fuss is about.

And how could I leave you without ripping-off one of our lovable Football adverts?

Eat Football, Sleep Football, Play SundayLeague.

Best of luck, Jimmy04@Benny
