★★★★☆

“Fantastic location. Basic room, and it takes a while...”

written by Marymcadam on 12/10/2006

Good Points
Beautiful island. Dream like location.
Friendly locals, except for Reception staff.
Helpful room boys.
Great food.
Lovely clear water.
Helpful Boat Boy offering excursions on catamaran.
Great diving centre.
Excellent opportunity to snorkel and dive.

Bad Points
Few amenities.
Little to do.
Security guards are a daunting presence at night whilst walking back to your room, turning porch lights out making it impossible to see.
Lack of lighting at night.
Reception staff refuse to compromise.

General Comments
Fantastic location. Basic room, and it takes a while to get round to the bathroom minus a roof. Take a hairdryer as only the deluxe or luxury rooms offer one. Also, if you want an enclosed bathroom book a deluxe room. Superior offers open bathroom only. Specify a room on the south side, as it's much nicer than the North side. Also, part of the beach at the North side was washed away by the Tsunami, and people with rooms at this end did not have a beach area and sunbathed under the trees. I would have been very disappointed to have been offered a room at this end.

There's little entertainment - a two piece band and a crab race. The disco is uneventful, and you will find yourself alone on the floor.

Vilamendhoo Beach Villa in the Maldives is in a wonderful setting for honeymooners or romantic couples who want to retire after their dinner at night. Not a holiday for singletons unless you want to make your own entertainment.

The food is amazing, and coupled with the location it really makes the holiday. The waiters are nice and helpful, but give the Germans their main attention due to the big tips they get from them.

An ideal place to swim, snorkel and dive. The sharks swim around the edges of the island that takes you a whole 30 minutes to walk around. This is amazing, as you can see the little fish swim around your legs.

You feel a little isolated, which I love. You have your own beach space and it is very private. You can stumble from your bungalow onto the white sands, just a few meters away from the waters edge.

I love this holiday, but think there might be better islands than Vilamendhoo. I'm going back to this island for the third time in a year, and this is definitely my last visit. I will try somewhere else next time around.
