Beautiful setting with views across the old harbour an on to the Isle of May
Not as warm and as welcoming as it could be. Menu needs revisiting so does the quality and service.
I have to say that I think foodlover's comparison of a Greasy Spoon is a little on the harsh side but I do agree with most of the rest in their review.
Years ago the Haven had a great reputation and I have witnessed some locals bringing their own plates in for a takeout. It was divided into two in those days, a small restaurant down stairs and bar meals up stairs. Both had a good reputation for both quality of food and service. But sadly today the Haven is a different beast.
I was looking forward to a return visit after so many years (12) and I was so disappointed. First the restaurant down the stairs was closed and on arrival up the stairs I was asked if I had booked, well on looking around, I was the only customer. The waitress went away to check that there was a table available and then sat me at the entrance to the main area. After ordering just a main course, it took 45 minutes to arrive and was a mixture of frozen food and cooked vegetables.
I was sad to see the changes to the Haven Restaurant, as it was a place I would have recommended in the past, but not now. I did however enjoy the walk back to the hotel I was staying at, in Anstruther and the cold pint of beer and a warm friendly pub on the way, which had an open fire and served food. Which I may try on my return.
