“Very High Risk”

written by TomAskew on 07/08/2016

On the plus side - the rental was approximately the price booked, although on DoYouSpain I was told that remaining petrol would be refunded on returning the car, in the office when collecting the car I was told it wouldn't be.

The big problem for me was with the terms and conditions and the way the lady in the office tried to scare us into taking out extra insurance. She stated that the terms and conditions meant the following:

1) If the car is in accident - regardless of blame, I would have have to pay for the damage to the car. I asked if I would then be refunded in the case of a claim on someone else insurance, I was told categorically NO and when I pushed she stated that this was due to the fact that 'nobody is insured in Spain'.

2) If the car breaks down and it is the fault of Drivalia - I would have to pay €600 for the car to be transported. As this amounts to roughly 6x what I pay for annual breakdown cover in the UK, I can only assume it is in Drivalia's interests to supply cars that break down!!

3) When my wife voiced her concerns - she was simply told that she 'didn't care.

4) The office does not open until 8am, and we were not informed of this prior to our returning the vehicle. We waited 30mins for them to open up so we could try and catch our flight. As an aside the driver of the of the minibus to the airport also then pulled out on an oncoming motorcycle very nearly causing a very serious accident.

In the the end the car was fine - the price was okay, and we caught our flight safely. The risks for me however are far too high to consider using Drivalia again.
