Good Points
Good battery time, good sound quality
Bad Points
General design, recording using external mics, inline remote, not very durable
General Comments
The Sony MZ-R700 is not a great player. Operation is clunky and the design of this unit is terrible. The battery department is located directly underneath the lcd display so during charging the crystal display gets cooked like a turkey. I also noticed fragments of dust creeping in underneath the same display which should be sealed. 12 months on, the characters on my screen are extremely faded and very difficult to decipher, especially under direct sunlight. The inline remote is extremely nasty, lacking any display feature and feeling very cheap. The buttons on this remote are so small it's practically inoperable by adults. Also, the fixing pin is comparable to a Bic ballpoint pen/weak and breaks easily. Although the sound quality has been very good with an adequate variation of bass/treble control, I don't feel this md is typical of Sony quality. Within the same price range, there are were/are much better md units with mp3 transfer features and less noisy operation. I had the opportunity of using this at a rock concert and found the high-def external mic picked up more noisy player interference than the actual concert
In no way was this worth the money that I paid for it.
