“Total lack of concern for customers' worries over safety”

written by Deegee2006 on 12/07/2016

My experience with MyTyres differs substantially from most other reviewers. It suggests a complete lack of interest and concern for customer safety. Tyres, of course, need fitting, and MyTyres recommend a list of "service partners" to do this work. Accordingly, I selected the nearest of these. What I was not told was that this was a mobile service (IDS Tyres of Brighouse, W. Yorks), not a garage. After numerous difficulties in arranging the work, and delays, the fitting was eventually carried out, although unfortunately not at a time when I could be at home to oversee what was done. Several weeks later, after noticing steering wheel shudder at high speed, I checked the steel rims and found there were no balancing weights on any of the wheels! In other words, the work of wheel balancing - a standard procedure and a matter of safety - had not been done. I contacted the fitter who gave me a story that they must have fallen off! He also told me he had just had an operation and could not drive or work, so instead he offered to pay for me to take the car elsewhere to have the balancing done. This I did at some personal inconvenience: the garage I took it to said they had never heard of weights falling off - let alone from all 4 wheels! And to top it all, the money was not refunded from IDS as promised. After numerous emails, phone calls and texts, I did receive the money over a week later. When I phoned Customer Services at MyTyres, I was told that it was no concern of theirs, despite the fact that IDS was a recommended "service partner". They said the fitter was a 'separate company' and I should deal with them! I subsequently sent MyTyres an email detailing my concerns - including the potential danger that this fitter posed to their customers. I suggested that they could check whether my suspicions were correct: all they had to do was to contact their customers who had used IDS and ask them to check whether their wheels had balance weights on. Of course, they should want to do this anyway for safety reasons. I DID NOT EVEN RECEIVE A REPLY. I would certainly not choose to use a company who treats customers' serious concerns so casually.
