“As per other low cost carriers this one is even worse”

written by OscarCarreras on 28/06/2016

What to say. As many people the reason why i am writing a review is due to very poor service. I am sitting right now in Gatwick waiting for a delayed flight to Geneva that is also a flight replacement from a cancelled flight to Zurich (notice they are not even the same city) from Luton (not even the same airport) one day later (not even the same day). To recap: delayed flight, on top of cancelled flight, on top of wrong airport, on top of wrong destination.

But don't be fooled by the idea that I am just another disgruntled customer with bad luck compelled by recency bias. I did some maths and I might have flown with Easyjet more than 30 times since around 2007. It is a good representative sample i would think. For one year i was flying to Barcelona pretty much every two weeks for 7 months and did the same to and from Zurich for another 4 months. I have also used Easyjet for at least other 10 routes.

So let's analyse the data from that sample:

- Punctuality:I don't remember one flight that was ever on time when I was flying to Barcelona. Zurich was better though. Early in my sample i used to joke that I had never been in an Easyjet flight that was on time. In the end I was in one and had a good run of a few flights with reasonable timings.
- Customer service: Well, my little story above tells you all you need to know. Stranded in London for a day, given a flight 24 h later than the booking and to a much further destination. I had a couple of other issues with stringent baggage policies (forcing me to put a laptop in the suitcase when it was under my arm) or problems about duty free.
- Comfortability: It is a low cost airline. It is going to be uncomfortable, nothing different to the others.
- Value added: None. Other low cost airlines like Norwegian provide you with things like wifi, i believe Monarch gives you a little snack. Small things. Easyjet and Ryanair just make the flight look like a Baazaar in Cairo, trying to force upsell you with overpriced cardboard food or ridiculous duty free. To be fair to Easyjet, Ryanair is much worse from that point of view.
- Flight times: This is a good thing. Easyjet tends to have much more reasonable flight times than Ryanair for example, with which 6 am flights are pretty common.

So to sum up: sometimes is impossible not to fly with a low cost airline. They are convenient, cheap and have many direct routes. If you do, and you have an alternative for where you want to go, i would encourage you to go for those that provide you with less hassle (Ryanair, Monarch, Vueling and the great Norwegian). Not sure if my sample reaches significance but i think it is close enough.
