“Disappointing lunch visit. Misrepresentation.”

written by Bradleykc91 on 10/06/2016

Paid a visit to The Masons, a pub in St. Mellons, Carduff. The outside is delightful, as was the inside . However, we wandered around the tables noting every table seemed to have a Reserved sign. However, we were approached by a waitress who told us that we could sit where we liked if we were eating. The Reserved cards were only on the table to keep the people who just wanted to drink away!! I don't quite understand this as the place was empty. We ordered and sat down. Food came, no problem with the curries, though we did have to ask for mango chutney. We looked at the dessert menu and the ice-cream desserts looked gorgeous. I ordered the chocolate icecream and my daughter ordered the strawberry. I was informed there was no chocolate available so I settled for strawberry and vanilla with chocolate sauce. No problem. Each dessert on the menu was illustrated by a picture. The strawberry icecream was decorated with a fan biscuit and fresh strawberries, with strawberry syrup. They came, mine was fine, my daughters was just four little scoops of pink icecream. Nothing else. At £4 each this was ridiculous. And what about the picture? The waitress gave her some strawberry sauce. Then the owner came to our table with the menu. When we queried the icecream and the picture that sold it to us she said it was a new menu and they did not supply strawberries at all. Fan biscuits and sauce had to be asked for. For £4? The pictures illustrating the desserts were quite big, drawing the eye. Then, triumphantly, she pointed to two tiny worded lines right at the bottom of the page. "The pictures above may not represent the dessert served". Or words to this effect. By this time my daughter was almost in tears, we just wanted to go. We got ready to leave, as we had paid In advance, when the waitress came out to us with a refund for the icecreams. The waitress herself was very kind and told us she understood . We will never go back to The Masons again.
