“4 stars because of one flaw in the process”

written by Koenig74 on 03/06/2016

I've purchased from PC Specialist before and will in the future. I went for (for me)a top end spec and the PC when it arrived was extremely well packed. On extracting the contents there was a note on the side panel informing me that the side fan had been disconnected due to the internal packing in the case. This was very impressive but led to the only negative experience.

I'm not an IT expert, so looking into the interior caused me to guess where the fan was meant to connect. This wasn't helped by having two sockets, a male and female leading from the fan and one female socket in the interior. I ended up guessing that only the male connector from the fan was needed. Others may tut at my naivety, but having spent about £1700 on the beast I didn't want to wreck it before I switched it on. The PC Specialist helpline wasn't an option because I was outside their working hours.

Then came the second problem, the connectors wouldn't fit together. The pins on the one socket were wobbling around as were the sockets on the other. Eventually I found out from Internet forums that these "Molex" connectors required brute force to engage correctly. Not what I would have expected. In fact I'm astonished at the crudity of it.

Everything was satisfactory in the end, however, a bit of elaboration on the explanatory note on the side of the PC would have made things far less stressful.

Other than this a pleasant experience from start to finish.
