“Destroyed my business”

I had recently started my own business and received a cold call from yell selling advertising. It sounded good and I agreed to pay £40 a month, I was promised my own advisor to build my ad. I was told I would be called the next day about adding photos. Next day and no call, waited another day and decided to send some photos myself and populate the ad myself. Still no call back. They had my money and so didn't care, I tried my best to build the ad but after 4 months I had no customers (I had several from a free advertising site) I emailed them and told them I was cancelling as they had lied to me. I was quickly told I could not as I was in a contract. I cancelled the direct debit and was contacted again re payment. I informed them I would not pay and that I would happily see them in court. I was emailed and told that no legal action would take place, today I receive a debt recovery letter demanding the full years payments. I called yell and was told that even if I pay my ad won't be put back on! So I'm £400 down with NOTHING to show for it.
They promised to promote my small business but have actually destroyed it!
