“Easy to use”

written by CarlosDonahue99 on 01/05/2016

I spend hours on Find My Past and look at the FMP Friday email before I go to work! You may find the following hints handy if you are a starter - Always use the name variation box. If you are wanting to do a straight forward family tree start with the 1939 register and census years (1841-1911). The hints on the family tree part can get you mixed up so I don't use them. Middle names are really useful. Use the transcription as a signpost but make sure you open the original file. Even if the record appears to be duplicated still look at it as there could be a subtle difference or extra piece of info. I like that you can identify what records you have already looked at. My favourite part is the newspapers. I use the zoom on these records. Maps would be good as a future development.
