“Non-delivery”

written by Seed-sower on 15/04/2016

I've only used home delivery once before, and this was my first order with Asda, so took a lot of setting up, and finding items, when we dont have Asda stores near me in North London, so I wasn't familiar with products. I based my order round the good price of bottles of coke, which I was buying for my 77yr old ex-guardsman neighbour who prefers coke to other caffeine! He has a spinal injury, so I wanted to avoid his carrying 1.75L bottles from Camden, as he usually does. I ordered 20, which would last him a month or 2.
The slot I paid for was 7-9pm last night. My order had been confirmed 8 days before, but no issues were raised, though I'd given details to assist the driver. It was almost 8.30pm when I got a phone-call. "Delivery!" was the only greeting. "Yes, are you here?," I asked.
"What do you mean by 1st floor?"the driver asked.
I explained friendlily that there's a basement, but I'm one above ground level...but I'll wave to show you where I am.
There was no van visible. But then he drove from round the bend, parking on the opposite side of the busy A5200.
"Is there any help?" the driver persisted.
"There's me," I said, I started to realise the driver just did not want to deliver my order at all, and that my help was not good enough. Everything he said was negative.
He said that my order was "over the weight restriction", and that "consideration needs to be given to the person delivering". I said that there had been plenty of time to raise issues in advance of the delivery time, that it was my first order, and the whole point was to bring things I can't carry myself.
The driver just remained on the opposite side of the A5200 though I said several times that he needed to come to the space by the gate "to make it easier". I have never in 20 years unloaded across this London A road, where 2 of my parked vehicles have been hit, and a pedestrian walking on the pavement was knocked down. He did not move from the Islington side of the A5200. He did not make the delivery. I said that if he did not want to make the delivery I'd take it up with the shop. He just sat there a few minutes, then drove off.
I found my friend & neighbour, the retired queen's guard, was down to half a bottle of coke, and he said he'd carry 2 bottles tomorrow, more than he'd usually carry, as he'd depended on this order.
So this is to let you know of this shoddy time wasting experience with Asda, and the unbelievably negative lack of service from this non-delivery driver, so you wont waste hours making a fruitless order, like I did.
