“Wasted 80 mile trip to view sofa range which wasn't there”

written by Meresider on 13/04/2016

Yesterday we made an 80 mile round trip to the M&S Home store at Monks Cross, York, specifically wanting to view the 'Harriet' range of sofas and chairs. There was not one on display. Other ranges were missing too. This is a vast store, yet the assistant told me they'd had to get rid of some display furniture to place a new range of kitchenware on somesuch.

How can anyone hope to sell an item if the customer can't try it? Certainly, after sitting on all the others that were on display, I doubt we would have bought anyway. The styles differed from one range to another, but the dimensions appeared similar on them all, i.e. seats too low and the cushions too deep (front to back, not in thickness - they all seemed to be made for people 6'6" or thereabouts) and far too soft. I felt that I was sinking to the floor on every one, and being old and decrepit found it difficult to stand up as a result. We were told there was no alternative, firmer, cushion available, so that was that. Take it or leave it.

I really expected great quality and choice from M&S, but here's another range of goods that, in my opinion, you're way behind on.
