“Barratt's don't know how to fit the pipe properly.”

written by Ashton327 on 30/03/2016

Barrett's house in Scarborough

I purchased the Barratt’s house on the 7th March and on the 11th March my ground floor was flooded due to the pipe which was not fitted properly in downstairs WC unit.

The water was in the house for 24 hours as house was not occupied yet. Barratt’s did say that water didn’t damage anything. The questions:

Are my kitchen units and underfloor heating which was started to be laid waterproof?

Who is going to pay for damage to the underfloor heating?

Who is going to take responsibility for the stress caused by leakage which delayed to lay the underfloor heating and floor and my move in to the house?

Is Barratt’s building waterproof houses?

As I’m a hospital doctor I worked 24 hour shift on the 11th March so couldn’t attend the house till the next morning. The electrician and his plumber did all cleaning and fixing the pipe. The site manager and sales adviser were informed about the leaked pipe and water everywhere but they didn’t advise to call emergency number Barratt’s claiming I haven’t done. The question:

Why did site manager and/or sales adviser didn’t advise to call emergency number as they new what’s happened? As Barratt’s claim that nothing was done as I didn’t contacted this number.

The inappropriate fitted pipe was fixed by plumber not related to Barratt’s.

Barratt’s plumbers ( as there apparently were few of them) came to assess the pipe only on Monday the 14th March. I still don’t have any report from them. They were also on Tuesday the 15th March without informing me. They covered the hole and that it. The questions:

What the Barratt’s plumbers found on assessment? Was the leak fixed and tested to prevent any further leakage? As my understanding the pipe was covered without any further assessment and tests by Barratt’s. That would be the coverage of evidence. Can Barratt’s now take all responsibility for the future leakage will occur in the same place as they just covered the pipe without assessment and testing?

As a hospital doctor I’m working a lot and don’t have spare time if not planned in advance.

My husband had meeting with the Construction manager who just basically bulled that I will lose my 5 year warranty and my 1st floor will collapse due to underfloor heating installation. The questions:

If Barratt’s houses are not compatible with underfloor heating why I was not inform before purchasing the house as the rest of things like can’t have TV satellite on the front of house or caravan and etc…? Are you going to inform all underfloor heating companies that you are building the houses which are not compatible with their underfloor heating?

Is my 1st floor going to collapse? And if yes, why I’m not getting any help from Barratt’s?

The Hovingham Interiors which were contracted to lay the underfloor heating in my house didn’t accepted the faulty pipe. As the smaller trader just helped the client like me to fix the pipe and continued their work with the lost. They didn’t have any contact and me either to any pipes in the house so why Barratt’s left the pipe not properly connected? Why the fault pipe was just covered without proper assessment and test? Barratt’s is not ethical to smaller traders. Barratt's already famous with unethical behaviour between the smaller traders in Yorkshire.
