Arrived on a Wednesday afternoon with a friend and our 2 young children after seeing in Feb-Mar 2010 issue of Primary Times that playdays are FREE Tues - Thurs in the Playbarn. As we had never been there with the children before we thought it was the perfect opportunity to give it a go. We arrived to an empty play area and could not find a member of staff so we let the kids play whilst we decided on someting to eat from the menu. A good 5 minutes later my friend went to find someone to order our food with (who subsiquently sent her back to the playbarn to order food with the staff member who should have been in there). Meanwhile I was watching the children and the staff member entered the playbarn and sarcastically asked me if i wanted to sign in a couple of children. I told her we had been there over 5 minutes and couldn't find anyone, to which she replied 'well i was only out there'My friend, at this point returned to order the food as the member of staff tried charging for the children to play. When i questioned this and mentioned the advert, i was told in no uncertain circumstances that the free playdays only applied to Tuesdays & Thursdays and i was mistaken. I then produced the copy of primary times from my car which clearly states free playdays Tues - Thurs. Rather than honouring their mistake, I was argued with and then told by the member of staff that i was being pedantic!!! No, i was not being pedantic, just saying what the advert stated. We had travelled about 8 miles out of our way to try out this place because of an advert that they, themselves had placed and were now telling me was incorrect. Well whose fault is that? Not mine as the customer, but the person who proof read and approved the ad surely? The manager (I think, as he was not introduced) then told me again that they only do free playdays on Tues & Thurs and would not accept what was as plain as day in the advert. He then said if we didn't like it, we knew where the door was!!!! I asked for a refund on our food and advised them to re-think their advertising stategies. I am taking this further and will tell everyone i know about the way we were treated. I do believe that even if they really only offer free playdays on a tues and thurs, they should have honoured the mistake that they made with their advert as judging by the lack of customers in both the pub and the playbarn, they could do with all the customers they can get, rather than turning people away and treating customers the way myself, my friend and our children were treated today.
