“Final price 50% less than online 'guaranteed' price”

written by Jaiden360 on 19/02/2016

Went through the online valuation for my car and gave an honest appraisal including a couple of scrapes on bumper & bodywork.

This knocked about £400 off the 'perfect' price, but about what I expected.

So happy with that, and expecting to have another few hundred quid knocked off from the 'inspection' I booked an appointment at the local centre.

The inspection can only be described as a huge display with a lot of tutting and picking at imaginary chips and blemishes. According to the report produced by the inspector the paintwork on my car should have looked like a colander as apparently there were over 100 chips distributed over the cars panels. Where the hell all those chips were is anyones guess, but as his nose was literally an inch away from the bodywork, and making miniscule picking actions with his thumbs I guess they could have been microscopic chips....

This is not to mention the imaginary stains and soiling of the car seats.

As for the 'road test' the car was driven 3m forward and 3m backwards!

So where did this leave me? Once the 'inspector' had inputted his 'faults' into the computer the final valuation was 50% (yes HALF) of the so called online guaranteed quote, and £2300 less than I had been offered p/x!

As I was obviously unhappy with the quote given, it as immediately increased by £1000 (seriously?!), but they would not match the p/x price.

Now I'm not naive, and I know that the chances of achieving the 'online guaranteed price' are slim, but this is seriously bad.

This company were pulled up by the OFT a few years ago, perhaps its time that the relevant regulatory bodies took another look.
