“From Couch to Track in 3 months”

written by pbLeonard6 on 28/01/2016

I started using WLR after years of neglecting my body, drinking, no exercise, over eating... all leading to me being over 15 stone and high blood pressure. I was told by my doctor I must loose weight or risk early death.

It may be that the cost of WLR (which is very reasonable anyway) forced me to use it rather than sign up then ignore it.

It really helped me to take notice of what I was eating and the amounts. This was an area I had never ventured into in the past as I was in total control of what I ate and gained more and more knowledge of what to eat and when to eat it, what was best for me, how to plan my meals, top them up, spread them out etc etc.

Due to my weight dropping off in the first week and confidence building, I was able to start cycling. Even though I had not been on a bike for 30 years or more, I was able to ride round the block a couple of times and saw a few pounds more drop off as a few extra calories were burnt off, which then allowed me to eat more.

This was now becoming interesting, I was enjoying exercising which allowed me to eat more as long as I kept it balance. All the tools were there on WLR for me to control this balance and it was becoming great fun to record the weight dropping off and the changes in clothes sizes.

I then decided to go for it and entered the Great North Run, no going back now. Running shoes were purchased and a whole new wardrobe. After 3 months I had reached my target weight of 12 stone and was really enjoying the new fit body.

My waist went from 38" to 32" and for well over a year now I have been able to maintain this. I even find myself eating at the end of the day to make up for calories burnt during the days exercise.

Over the past 2 years my life has completely changed, I now go on holiday and hire a cycle instead of getting drunk. I eat because I need the fuel for my exercise rather than eating due to greed. I have ran several half marathons and lots of 10k's. I run at least 5k every day and also cycle. I joined a running club at 53 years old, after never having ran before in my life. I have now entered 2 full 26.2 mile Marathons this year as well as many other events.

This was all kicked off by WLR
