“From darkness to light”

After a disastrous relationship ended, I was left with a huge amount of debt. I felt embarrassed, ashamed and terrified. StepChange staff were non-judgmental, incredibly kind and above all sensible and practical and found a solution for me with a debt management plan. I had to face up to finding out from each creditor exactly how much I owed and that was very hard to do as I had hidden my head in the sand for some time. But I gradually realised that I did have the strength to do this with the support of StepChange. Once the DMP was in place, I realised I had slept through the night without waking up and worrying for the first time in years. It took 6 years and 1 month but I have just come to the end of the DMP and am debt-free at last. I cannot thank the staff at StepChange enough.
