“Bathroom”

written by xcFallon373 on 03/12/2015

I got Homebase to supply and install a new bathroom last year. Contract was given to an external plumbing company. They came out and measured up and I told them what I wanted. Order was delivered on day it said it would. No problems. First day taking out my old tiles on the wall the contractor was hitting so hard it cracked the wall in my spare room. They re-plastered the cracked area but said I'd need to repaint it myself as they don't do that. I actually thought not too hard to touch up so that's fine. Well the paint I had was fairly old and wouldn't go on the walls and now the paint is discontinued that I have to try and match the paint to my walls and hope it will go on the wall and not peel off. I could have done without this issue to start with as I'm left to fix it. Lesson learned there. The install team were great and I had no issues with the finished bathroom. I had a leaking bath tap which was sorted within a fortnight after I reported the issue. My bath panel on one side was stuck with silicone but it has now come unstuck and I've been trying since July to get the contractor back out to fix it and they don't want to know as they are not making money from remedial work. As soon as I mentioned about a new boiler quick response back saying do you need help with that. I said no. Certainly quick off the mark if it's new work but sorting out issues they don't want to know.

The downside with Homebase is paying your money up front I never like doing that as you don't have a leg to stand on as they've got their money they move on to next job and there is no after service. They are also quite expensive. Also, you are buying things from a catalogue so you don't actually see the products you're ordering you just hope it's ok. Would definitely remember in the future if you can't see it before you order then find somewhere else.

The store have not helped in getting this remedial work done or even checked to see if the contractor has been in touch. So I would recommend that if you know a plumber buy products in and get them to install and don't use companies like Homebase. The after service definitely in my opinion lets them down.
