“Hot Fuss saw the Killers hit centre stage in the music...”

written by degbert on 25/07/2007

Good Points
Good album, some fairly strong material

Bad Points
In 10 years time will we say "remember the Killers"?

General Comments
Hot Fuss saw the Killers hit centre stage in the music scene - seeing them at Reading perform practically the whole of the Hot Fuss album was probably the highlight of the festival that year (2005, though I think Queens of the Stone age were vastly superior, but hey).

It's a good strong album with great singles material in Mr. Brightside, Smile Like you Mean It and Somebody Told Me; all a bit quirky, a bit odd, good drumming and guitar work, a bit "left-of-centre" pop, as one might expect. With the Zutons, Fratelli's and Monkeys all doing quirky pop these days, its difficult to work out who had the idea first. Hay-ho.

But the clincher for me and the real reason to get the album is the more rock-romp-esque All these things That I've Done. Well known and even hammed up by Robbie Williams in his live performances (Live8), it remains an absolute belter of a song, has a wonderful progression, a very simple chord line, great lyrics and a nice guitar melody. A worthy reason alone to have this on your nano or wherever, but the rest of the album is pretty good too.
