“canceling your policy”

I found Halifax car insurance on a comparison site they where one of the cheapest and what looked like value for money until .They ask me to submit my no claims bonus proof i have 9 yrs so i sent them aprox 10 to 15 copies as every day they would send an email saying they had not received it yet and my time was running out .When they eventually said they had received it. They said they where unable to see the amount of years i had so they had to raise my monthly payment or terminate the policy.Not wanting to be without insurance at the weekend, so i agreed and they set my no claims at 7 yrs .As for an unforeseen family issue i no longer have the car and rang to cancel my policy i was told i had to pay £55 fee. I think this disgusting as i was paying £15.50 a month ,so i am paying for the next 3 months plus . I have banked with Halifax for over 20 yrs and this is how they treat you . I will be moving from the bank that likes to GIVE YOU MORE penalties to a bank that thinks about customer care and not their bonuses.
