I was with Direct Line for (on and off) 15 years and was mostly satisfied with their service. However, when I needed to make a claim (for a burst radiator pipe), they responded quickly enough but soon after they DOUBLED my premiums!!! WTF!!!
I called the call centre and asked why they had done this. Their response was 'because I'd made a claim'. I explained that I had been with them for 15 years and that I had only ever made one claim. They then said that they'd look at my policy to see what they can do. The chap came back to me and said that they could reduce my premium by 30%. I asked him why they increased my policy in the first place and he said he wasn't sure....I told him his company was ridiculous and was ran by chancers and hung up.
I immediately found a cheaper/better insurance policy with another company, called DL back and cancelled my policy with them. They lovingly charged me £25 to leave them and that was that.
My advice - don't go anywhere near them. They don't care about their loyal customers and only rely on new blood
