“Return flight overbooked”

After spending one week in a beautiful hotel in Majorca we were collected from the hotel in a coach (not the Thomson coach) it was the longest and worse transfer. When checking in at the airport we were told that we are on stand by because the plane has been overbooked. We then had to run with our luggage back and forward to find a Thomson employee who was able to deal with the situation. Why their picked us (my mom is 65 years old) I do not know. Booked this holiday in July . We then went to passport control and security and had to wait if their is room on the plane after everyone boarded. If not we could not fly and would have to wait for the next plane to Birmingham. We booked to go to East Midlands. In the end 2 people did not turn up and we were able to fly. My question is what right have Thomson got to say you can not go on this flight when I booked and paid for this 2 month previous. Worse then Ryanair. We will complain to Thomson officially but don't expect to hear. Question is reliability
