“Monster By Name And Nature”

written by terminaljunkie on 23/08/2015

Ordered a Monster Mobile Clarity in-Ear Apple Headphone with apple control, great price after big discount (£16.99). Order was received in the specified time frame so no quibbles at all with 7DayShop, however the product itself did not meet expectations and has been given to my wife as she is less fussy about quality of sound!

I have a now aging pair of Creative EP630 headphones and used them as the baseline product in comparing the headphones. Music by Bjork, James Bay, Radiohead, Howard Shore, The Decemberists, Ben Howard, David Bowie, 21 Pilots, Damien Rice and Frank Sinatra.

The long and short of it is that the Monster headphones accentuate the bass every time. As a result any subtle underlying tones or effects become masked by the bass presence which skews the sound. Much of the violin playing in Bjorks Stonemilker are muffled, The clean crisp thump of the Creative's EP630's in all albums mentioned are mushy thuds with the Monster Clarity earbuds.

I could go on but the point is made - crisper and more realistic music reproduction is available from headphones at £10 not the advertised £70 discounted to £16.99. In my opinion the interference in music reproduction by brands like Bose and Monster tries to create a preferred sound by manipulating frequencies - it is not a clean and desirable sonic experience.

They are comfortable, and they do look pretty snazzy whilst being a decent price but their sole purpose is to reproduce sound as accurately as possible...on this they fail to deliver.
