Opodo recently advertised a 15 euro discount voucher for flights (OP15EURO) on one of its many European website. As some flights cost only a few euros, I was able to make a booking for a Ryanair flight from Dortmund to London for 0.57€ (15.57€ for the flight - 15€ voucher).
The voucher was accepted without problems during the booking process. All the way up to the final payment page, the Opodo website showed a total price of 0.57€ when paying by American Express. Other payment options incurred an extra fee.
Just before confirming my payment, I made a pdf screenshot of the final page showing my credit card details and the amount due (0.57€).
However, once I clicked the pay button, I got an automatic email from Amex that opodo had charged me 15.57€. An automatic email from Opodo a few minutes later also indicated a total amount of 15.57€.
I immediately complained to Opodo that I was overcharged and even included the pdf screenshot clearly showing a total cost of 0.57€ for my booking.
Opodo.it answered a few days later to say that I cannot use a voucher when paying with an "Agos Opodo" credit card. As I did not pay using such an "Agos Opodo" credit card, Opodo's answer does not make any sense. In addition, Opodo completely ignored the fact that I sent them a screenshot showing a total amount of 0.57€ when paying by American Express. Finally, the discount voucher did not specify any terms and conditions whereby it could not be used with a particular credit card.
I have contacted Opodo several times now, without once getting a meaningful response that actually addresses my problem. Consequently, I am still waiting for a refund of the 15 euros by which I have been overcharged.
If I do not receive my legitimate refund in due time, I will have no other choice but to contact American Express to file a fraud complaint and reverse the transaction.
