“Awful experience”

written by simba85 on 20/08/2015

I wish I could give no stars!
We purchased an Audi A6 from Chrome last April (2014) due to an
expanding family and we were looking for a safe and reliable family car.
I am only now writing the review due to court action we took against
Chrome.
We paid just over £10,000 (all of our savings) for the 2007 model
with reasonable milage (approx 55,000 miles).when we took the car for a
test drive the automatic stalled, juddered on acceleration and was
smokey, we spoke to the sales team about this and they explain that it
had been allowed to run very low on fuel and that it was a good car and
with a tank of fuel all these problems would resolve. I will attempt to
keep this brief as this has been very long and stressful dealings with
Chrome motors.
The car broke down on the way home, we were initially offered a
refund but a garage organised by Chrome stated that it was a Turbo clip
that had come loose and fixed it and all seemed fine for a few days then
the same warning light came on, it went into the garage 6 times, one of
those visits having the car out of action for 6 weeks whilst a part was
ordered from abroad. we only went to our local Audi garage with this
car and their service was amazing. When we were offered the refund we
did not know the full extent of the problems the car had we, had we have
known this we would of most certainly returned the car. When we
purchased the car we were told it had just had a new EGR, this was
initially what was found to be at fault when we took the car to our Audi
garage and Chrome assisted in paying for this. however on replacing the
EGR the second time the problems did not resolve and unlike Chrome who
continued to sell the car despite juddering and stalling we continued to
investigate the issues and the full extent of the cars problems were
uncovered.
The car needed a new EGR and had, had the diesel particulate filter
removed and the hole concealed ( i do not believe Chrome did this as we
saw the part and the patch up looked older then the time Chrome had it,
however given how the car was on the test drive i do believe that
someone who has worked in the cars industry for many years should have
known that something was wrong and needed investigating). This lead to
the Electronic control unit also needing to be replaced.
A DPF is a MOT requirement therefore we were sold an unread worthy
car from Chrome. When this was highlighted to the MD his response was to
inform us he was going on holiday for a fortnight and would reply
after. He Did not respond to us on return from his holiday so we sought
advice from trading standards and sent a complaint about faulty goods
letter, then a second complaint about faulty goods letter, then a
pre-action letter and the offer to settle without prejudice. When all of
these recorded delivery letters were ignored we then had no choice but
to start court proceeding. Chrome was made aware that the car they had
sold was unroadworthy and not as described as the car description stated
it had a DPF and they did not contact us to try and resolve the
issue.Whilst waiting for a court date the car stopped whilst on a
roundabout about to enter a slip road to a 70mph dual carriageway. No
warning the car just stopped! I still now feel sick thinking about the
fact that there was me, my partner, our little baby and our dog in the
car. Had we have entered the dual carriageway I do not think we would
all have made it home!!! This is the possible repercussions for selling
unsafe cars Chrome Motors! We never drove the car again and traded it in
for a new A4, the turbo had gone and thats what caused it to stop. I
refused to put my family at risk.
In the end Chromes MD decided to offer us a settlement the day
before court, he paid us £2000 so we still lost out a lot of money on
this car but it could have been worse so we were just glad to have
closure.
I would never recommend this company to any of my friends or family
and I know he has happy customers but if you buy a car with a fault as
we did Chrome do not care even when it puts you and your family at risk.
This is not slander this is my honest and edited (i could've used a
lot stronger language to describe Chrome) experience of my dealings with
Chrome and the awful quality car they sold us.
