“I use the Yamaha XT600 for commuting and taking 90...”

written by on 03/08/2008

Good Points
Looks, low maintenance, reliability, engine sound, and mileage.

Bad Points
Not comfortable at speeds above 80 due to the high riding position. However, the high view and straight back is bliss around town. Yamaha finish... every single screw and metal fitting rusts including the wheels and exhaust. The wheels do polish up nicely though, and with a coat of WD40 they won't rust for a while after.

General Comments
I use the Yamaha XT600 for commuting and taking 90 mile trips on the motorway and it is perfectly fine for both. Is comfortable enough at 80 or just cruising at 60-70. Very very low maintenance bike, just lube the chain and check you have enough oil and air pressure, and thats it really. I do remember this bike feeling extremely windy with a textile jacket, but after switching to a leather one I can't even feel it. Also, my XT always starts up first time with the choke on and it's ready to ride straight away. Has some nice safety features, won't start if not in neutral, and will shut off with the kick stand down. I give this 9/10. It loses 1 for the rusting bolts etc. I can't personally fault it in any other way for what it is made for.
