“Venice”

written by on 21/07/2015

The trip was good but, unfortunately due to Ryan Air changing flight times, we did not get as much time in Venice as we had planned and the late evening arrival caused problems. Arriving late evening in Treviso meant that, by the time we arrived in Venice, the waterbuses to Murano island where we were staying were no longer running and no one seemed to be able to help us. Eventually we were obliged to take a water taxi (expensive!)after having spent a long time trying to find our way through narrow streets late at night. We arrived at the hotel at 12.30am.However, Venice is a nice place to visit and certainly the islands in the lagoon are quieter and more relaxing. Again, however, Venice in summer is very hot and humid and you spend a lot of time on the waterbuses but when it is hot, this is a good thing.
If you wish to visit the Basilica and the Doge's Palace in summer, it is best to get there first thing in the morning.
The hotel on Murano was very good; the breakfasts very nice but we did not eat there in the evenings and your choice of restaurants on the island is limited.
