“Expensive, unreliable and poor value for money.”

written by BrinnyBiker on 07/07/2015

Garmin's Zumo 660 motorcycle sat-nav is supposed to be amongst the top bike sat navs available. At a cost of £400 without mountings it is an expensive item. Mine is also a lemon. I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT ZERO STARS IF IT WERE POSSIBLE. It is that bad.

The one I own has had very little use, living as it does on the summer bike. It barely got out of warranty before the USB port failed in a rather smoky manner. It then developed a bluetooth fault which meant that anything above 30mph resulted in music dropping out and glitching, effectively making the music player redundant. Then the sat nav voice followed suit and finally it died completely.

I have yet to decide if I want to pay Garmin's eye watering repair charge and risk it failing again or to just not bother and stick with an iPod and a map. At least the map can't fail.

Even when it works it can only be described as adequate. The navigation system led us a merry dance in Normandy until I switched it off and used, yes you guessed it, a map!

On the whole, save yourself 3/4 of the £400 price and buy a waterproof bag and a cheap car sat-nav. It will do just as well and if it dies, well for under a £100 you just chuck it and buy another.

Garmin's Zumo 660 sucks.
