“Very high quality sunglasses!”

written by richiecatpugh on 03/07/2015

Serengeti Dante - Shiny Gunmetal/ Polarised Drivers - 7113

This is my second pair of Serengeti sunglasses - in fact it's my second pair of 'Dante' as I've unfortunately lost my first pair.

I've owned several branded sunglasses and have to say Serengeti are my current favourite for build quality, lens quality, frame and lens combinations and optical clarity.

The only other pair I've had that would compete on all levels were my original RayBan 'Outdoorsman', but these were from an era when Bausch and Lomb made the lenses and RayBan have unfortunately sold out to a new owner since then and quality has IMHO suffered. Oakley have largely done the same - favouring weird and wacky frame styles and they don't seem to cater much anymore for somebody after a 'classic shape' and wire frame like the old E, C and Square Wires...

So back to my 'Dante'...

Well packed/presented - supplied in a rigid, sprung clamshell case with large embossed polishing cloth included. Not danger of them getting crushed in a bag if you're sensible.
Beautifully made - a very high level of finish to both the frame and lenses. Highly polished and blemish free.
Perfect Clarity - Optically correct photochromic glass lenses in a face-wrapping slim wire frame, deliver an unobtrusive glare-free view of the world. The polarised effect of my lens choice gives a level of HD-ness in bright sunlight that makes them amazing for driving and perfect for general wear
Snug Fit - the 'S-Flex' wire frame gently grips your head and is brilliant at combatting the 'sweaty nose=constant repost ironing' battle that is often a by-product of looser frame styles on hot sunny days or during activity wear eg jogging/ cycling

Overall, with the optically correct lenses and the s-flex frame innovation, I'd challenge anyone to find a better, more stylish, more comfortable pair of sunglasses ... Now I just need to look after them :)

The review is only not perfect because OutdoorGB took 5 days to despatch the item (they arrived in 7) and charge£3.95 for Premium Delivery...in a world where even small online retailers can achieve Free/Next Day, £4 for 7 days is in my opinion 'Poor' at best. I challenged them on day 6 over the cost and delay and they pointed me at the small print on the item page that said up to 8 days (this apparently supersedes the 'Checkout' information where Premium shows 2-3 days and is a £1 upgrade on Standard which advises 3-4) Perhaps I should've seen it and just be accepting, perhaps they should improve their internal processes to achieve a 24/48hr turnaround, or not charge for postage or not call it 'Premium' - but if you're willing to wait the sunglasses won't disappoint.
