Good Points
Cheap, looks good, silver slimline, lots of connectors SCART, SVideo, Video, optical etc. Plays any type of disc you put in, easy multi region hack.
Bad Points
Intro screen with Tesco helpline number is a dead give away when trying to impress friends.
General Comments
Bought on Dec 24th at Tesco for £99.49. on the spot decision, thought the Dansai 852 DVD player would be ok as a spare DVD player for the kids at such a low price.
Opened the box and was impressed by the quality of build and looks. Played region 2 DVD's as good as my expensive Pioneer player. Found multi region hack on web, within a few minutes all my region 1 discs played without problems. Tried a Video CD worked great. At this point I began searching for any CD's to post in. Music CD's worked perfect, putting in a CDR with MP3 files showed the files and played tracks without problems, menu even gave option of random play of tracks.
Found a CDR with a selection of home video files in MPEG 1 format, just 7 mpeg files saved from the computer and it played without problems, the remote even let me switch between files.
I have got to say I am stunned to have found such an impressive DVD player for so little money. I have just decided to use the Dansai as my main player, the kids can use the Pioneer. The question is will Tesco still have stock after Christmas, at £99 I think I will buy a second for my parents or on second thoughts give them the Pioneer,
