I took my car for an MOT to Halfords in Yeovil, Somerset, as they were only the local business who could do it at short notice. Mechanically I knew the car was sound, although I was a bit concerned about some rust of the OS sills. Anyway, i dropped my car off there and returned two hours later to be told the car had failed its MOT, with the rust of the sills as the main culprit, but also track rod ends, roll bars, brakes, and a few other items. He also handed me a 3 page list of advisories. Yes 3 pages. Now, I'm no qualified mechanic but I know a little about mechanics and often repair my own vehicles, so I knew looking at the advisories that they were rubbish. I enquired about cost to weld the sills, and after a bit of chin rubbing and ooooh they told me £450. There was no way I was paying that, so I drove my car away and booked it into my usual MOT garage for 4 days later. They did the welding for £90, and the car went straight through its MOT. I showed my mechanic the list of advisories and other fails and he had a look at all of them and told me, Halfords must be blind. Aside from a little bit of rust on a cable pipe, he couldn't see any other reason to advise on anything. In my opinion Halfords were trying to get me have unnecessary work done at inflated costs. Ill never go there again and I warn my friends about them to
