I spoke to Arnold Clark (Blackpool) by phone today about a couple of problems I have with my Chevrolet which is under manufacturer's warranty. I didn't buy it from them but they are the nearest main dealer to my home. The car which has less than 9000 miles on the clock doesn't go into 1st gear easily, and on several occasions recently, it has been a bit jerky at low speeds (20 - 30mph). Having explained these issues, they wouldn't just say whether it sounded like faults that would come under warranty or not. This puts me off taking the car to them as I feel that they'll probably just say they can't find anything wrong and charge the fee of £75 + vat.
When I bought my previous Chevrolet from a main dealership (again not Arnold Clark) they were happy to check the car over if something seemed out of order, and they never charged anything.
If a purchase is under warranty and it's not right, it should be looked at free of charge, and an quote supplied if the fault is not under warranty. That's what customer service is about.
