I think 123-reg rely on having customers with websites that are rarely used so that they can get away with fixing problems before anyone has noticed.
For the last two years I've noticed several issues which happen intermittently on the server-side. Along with it often running very slow this does not encourage confidence in 123's hosting.
However, in the last two months their server-side email service has been blacklisted three times, stopping my site sending emails to the users for around a week each time.
This is bad enough, but what is most annoying is that 123-reg do not inform you when this happens, they seem to just hope you won't notice before they get it fixed.
They also don't inform you when an issue you've informed them about has been resolved. They leave it to you to keep checking and the support ticket automatically expires (usually before the issue is resolved).
This level of service is bad even for cheap hosting.
