“Everything is just rubbish”

written by bearshit on 07/04/2015

I don't have enough time to comment in detail on how bad this bank is, so instead I'll just give you a few headlines of abysmal performance. It takes a whole 7 day week between funds leaving my Santander current account and them being credited against my Santander credit card bill. My money just disappears for 7 days. I cannot change my home telephone number details (having moved), because Santander's on-line banking cannot accommodate someone whose home number is the same as their work number. I cannot use my debit card because every time I try Santander anti-fraud people say "this is unusual" and block the transaction. The flexible mortgage proved to be totally inflexible. I want close a joint account with my ex-wife, and Santander have given me a form to complete that asks for totally irrelevant information like my income details (what has that got to do with closing an account). My ex-wife wanted to re-mortgage our house, to buy out my share, but Santander insisted I transfer title to the house (through Land Registry) before they would even consider my ex-wife's application to buy my share (my solicitors said NO WAY, so went elsewhere for the money). I needed an interest statement. It took months for someone at Santander to add-up 12 numbers. Today I got an emailing claiming that my branch had tried to contact me by 'phone (except they hadn't because there were no messages, no voice mails, no missed call log on my 'phones, and I was in all day and the 'phone never rang). When I need to withdraw cash, they wont let me do it in the branch - no I am forced to stand in the street and use the cash point. I applied for a credit card and was refused .. however, the next day I got a circular through the post saying I was guaranteed to get a credit card (and I did). Asked if I could raise my credit limit. No.. they wanted me to apply for a different card. The list just goes on, and on, and I get by using alternative financial services that can deliver. This is a spectacularly bad bank, and they seem to be getting worse. It's time to leave and go elsewhere - it can't be worse.
