“A great car which my wife refers to as her "old...”

written by Bruxxie1 on 24/05/2007

Good Points
We bought the car new in August 1986 and my wife has used it virtually daily ever since. However, she only does about 6 miles a day so it still only has approx 70,000 miles on the clock.
We did recently look at replacing the car but the practicality of the Porsche hatchback means my wife can get her clubs and trolley in with no problems. We looked at (and tried out) several sports cars including the Mercedes SLK, Mazda, Honda etc but none were as practical as this 21 year old Porsche for the golf aspect.

Bad Points
No real bad points, and we've had it serviced every year by an ex- Porsche trained mechanic. It's never failed an MOT and has cost around £350 per year for the service around August of each year.
However we have recently had problems with oil leaks(not really unexpected after 21 years) and this cost us £600 to have all sorts of oil seals replaced. No leak problems now.

General Comments
A great car which my wife refers to as her "old banger" but I can't see her parting with it unless something really drastic happens.

As I said, it's very difficult to find an equivalent type of sports car with enough space to comfortably carry a large golf bag and trolley (plus, on occasions, her friend's bag & trolley on the mini back seats).

All in all, it was probably the best buy I ever made (around £18,000 back in '86) and I would bet that there's not many wives out there who have stuck with the same car for 21 years.
