Basically GMail is a step above most of the other free mail services out there; nice and solid. Spam filter is superb. Although it could perhaps be a bit more intuitive.

But if you can be bothered to set up IMAP/POP with an application based mail client (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) it becomes PHENOMENAL
