Good Points
This is a simple guitar to play and operate.
The lipstick pickups has a sound no other single coil pickups have. Its light weight and you don't have to stretch to play on the low registers.
Neck pickup is a blues players dream, throaty and hollow.
Neck pickup is a wonderful chicken picker sound, and because the pickups are wired in series - it's louder with both pickups on.
The pickups are surprisingly quiet for single coils (I assume its from the shielding of the lipstick tube)
The wooden bridge is wonderful for not breaking strings.
Bad Points
They can be inconsistent. You should play several too get the right one.
General Comments
I have played the Danelectro 56 U2 for about 9 years now and it fits my style. I was influenced by James Burton so the brightness fits me. After 40 years of playing and making a good living at it, I have acquired many guitars, some cheap and some expensive. The expensive ones when I was young and thought they would make me play better... But the Dano has brought me more compliments and interest then all my other guitars combined. A hard rocker or metal player may have some use for this but not much. Its got great clean tone and its bright in a beautiful way. I have had no problem with it through the years and now that I'm 54, I like the light weight. Also it favors certain amps like all guitars do. I wont go into that now, you have to search for the right guitar through the right amp. I would buy another if I lost it. After approximately 9 years, it's become a good friend and I don't care what the guitar was made for or marketed to. It plays and sounds wonderful and it fits me. Thats all that counts.
