“late and poor phone response - staff cutbacks?”

I Have been very satisfied with Aviva until very recently when, following the receipt of renewal documents for my car insurance, I considered the quote for a 2nd car to be excessive. I obtained a quote from Sage for the same car and coverage which was almost 50% cheaper and phoned Aviva to discuss this. In the past I have had helpful and constructive phone discussions with Aviva to resolve queries and quotes, but not this time. After 2 phone calls ( 8-10 minutes before being answered) no explanation for the extra cost of the Aviva quote could be given, no negotiation was offered and, almost worst of all, I had the distinct impression that neither of the two members of staff I talked to were bothered whether I renewed or not. Furthermore, the receipt of the Aviva invite to renew gave me just 9 working days before the expiry of the cover - an attempt to make me pay up without delay?
