“I used TUTV for many years but have now cancelled the...”

Written on: 23/03/2011

I used TUTV for many years but have now cancelled the service as it no longer seems to offer value for money.

I think I'm right in saying that the price has increased twice in a year. Given that 3/4 of the programming was deleted straight away it doesn't seem worth paying for anymore.

As others have said the programming is pretty poor (ten year old episodes of American shows anyone?)plus the same shows are repeated over and over again. (Fawlty Towers is a classic, but how often would you want to watch it?)

I guess the final straw for me was the large number of adverts which filled up the box; often as many as seven at a time for channels I don't want - ESPN & Sky Sports, showing sports I'm not interested in.

When I complained to TUTV about this I was told it was part of the deal that I had to receive "marketing". They then told me that I could clean-install the box, although quite how this would get rid of the ads is not clear as presumably they would just come back again.

For many years TUTV used to show some unusual sports when they took selected shows from Eurosport: I used to enjoy watching winter sports and the rallying. This certainly made the package worth paying for.

As others have remarked the Thomson box was truly terrible.

I ditched it and bought a Bush which proved far more reliable. Indeed I still use it as my Freeview box.

Unfortunately you still can't totally erase all traces of TUTV as you still get the small banner at the top of the programme guide, but not intrusive.

All-in-all TUTV is good idea, but poorly executed in my opinion.

Just my small contribution to the debate!
