“I actually had a really good experience with them”

I thought I'd share my positive experience given the many negative reviews here. I had a snowboarding accident in Switzerland Dec '13 after which I visited the local doctors before being referred to the hospital where I had an ultrasound and an X-ray. I wasn't allowed to fly or travel home because of my injury (pleural effusion). AXA sorted me out with a hotel for my extended stay and organised my flight home a week later with airport assistance and a taxi home from the airport. When I got home I claimed for the medical costs, the taxi fare to the hospital, the phone bills I racked up from calling them, the day of snowboarding lost on my lift pass and the food bills as a result of my extended stay. At first they paid me for everything except the food bills as my policy didn't cover them but I argued that at the time I had asked on the phone whether my food bills would be covered and they had said they would. AXA then listened to the recorded phone calls, found this was the case, and sent me a 2nd cheque covering the food bills.

On the exact same trip my friend also had a snowboarding accident and broke a few bones which required surgery. AXA covered all of his medical costs, paid for my other friend to fly back out to us to look after him (as his condition was felt to require assistance for returning home), paid for my friend's hotel and food costs and organised their safe return home.

We both had claim forms emailed to us on our return home, both had cheques sent out to us a few weeks (well it was over a month for him) after submitting our claims.

We bought our insurance though GNU Insurance who were underwritten by AXA. Whilst we were out there we were directly linked to AXA, AXA sorted out all our needs, I called AXA about 15 times on numerous occasions, and when we got home our claim forms were submitted to AXA. I don't know whether our claim and experience was better than everyone else's because it was originally bought through a different company but everything was handled by AXA and I was very pleased with it. We had also paid extra when we bought the insurance to have zero excess which turned out to be worth it!
