“Bought the Mission M73 speakers as a stop gap after...”

Written on: 31/01/2004 by rnwaters (1 review written)

Good Points
Attractive, fairly compact floorstanding speaker. Fairly smooth treble response - extremely polite and non fatigueing sound, however,,,,.

Bad Points
Definately, not hi-fi speakers. Extremely large, ponderous and out of proportion bass.

General Comments
Bought the Mission M73 speakers as a stop gap after selling a pair of MS20i pearl stand mount speakers. What can I say,,,foolishly purchased these speakers on hi-fi magazine recommendation only - will never do that again ! How do they sound ? well extremely large and out of proportion in the bass. I'm using them in a Cyrus pre/power set up with Marantz cd6000ki cd player (superb by the way) There is no bass control with this speaker, even when set at 2.5 feet from the rear wall. The bass colours and cancells out the sweet and detailed midrange and the treble just does not have enough bite or realism. These speakers may work as fronts in a home cinema set up, but please take extreme care if only to be used in a hi-fi set up.
